ICME 2027 invites proposals for Special Sessions on timely and focused topics of interest to the multimedia community. Special Sessions supplement the regular technical program by highlighting emerging research directions, recent advances, and topics of particular relevance to ICME participants. Each proposed session should have a clear and coherent focus rather than cover a broad research area.

Requirements

Session Title

A concise title identifying the proposed topic

Organizers

Names, affiliations, contact information, and brief biographies of the session organizers

Session abstract and rationale

A description of the topic, its motivation and significance, its relevance to ICME, and why a Special Session on this topic is timely

Tentative invited papers

A list of planned invited contributions, including a tentative title, author list, and an approximately 300-word abstract for each paper

Evaluation of Proposals

Proposals will be evaluated based on the timeliness and relevance of the topic, the coherence of the proposed session, the track record of the organizers, and the anticipated quality of the contributions. Special Sessions are intended as oral sessions and should attract high-quality papers that meet the scientific standards of the main conference.

Paper Submission and Review

Approved Special Sessions will be open to submissions from other interested authors in addition to the planned invited contributors. All papers, including invited papers, must be submitted through the official ICME 2027 paper submission system and will undergo the same review process and quality assessment as regular main-conference papers. Approval of a Special Session proposal does not guarantee acceptance of any individual paper. If a special session has more than 5 papers being accepted, some of the papers will be moved to the regular paper sessions of the conference.

Proposals will be evaluated based on the timeliness of the topic and relevance to ICME, as well as the track record of the organizers and anticipated quality of papers in the proposed session. When considering submitting a Special Session proposal, please bear in mind that Special Sessions are expected to be oral sessions, and ICME accepts only the top 15% of submitted papers for oral presentation. Therefore, only those proposals that have the potential to attract the highest quality papers are likely to be approved. Once the proposal has been approved, the organizer(s) and the Special Session co-chairs will arrange the review process.

The session organizers will work with the Special Session Co-chairs and Technical Program Committee Chairs to coordinate submissions and the review process in accordance with the conference policies. The final allocation of accepted papers to Special Sessions or regular sessions will be determined in consultation with the Technical Program Committee Chairs, taking account of topic coherence and session capacity.

Important Dates & Deadlines

Paper submission instructions and the applicable deadline time zone will follow the official ICME 2027 main-conference guidelines.
